Producing over 52,500 megawatts of energy per year, China now tops the US in wind energy production. Apparently one in two of all wind turbines manufactured globally in 2010 ended up in China; and they intend to keep this massive investment going to ramp up to 200,000 megawatts by 2020.
Having only really started wind energy production seriously some six years ago, that some mean feat! They will also, soon, be able to boast the world’s largest wind farm. Currently held by the UK for the Thanet Wind Farm in the North Sea which consists of 100 turbines some 7.5 miles off the Margate coastline producing 300MW, China’s Bohai Bay project when completed in 2020 will produce 1,000MW.
