Europa – A Green City for the Future

Winners of international design competition, Manuelle Gautrand Architects have put forth an amazing vision for the future for France’s latest city which could turn Paris into a metropolis. The site for Europa lies north of Paris near Charles de Gaulle Airport and some 20+ kilometers from Versailles.

Conceived as a destination in itself, with an estimated cost of 1.7 Billion Euros the combination of artificial ski-slopes, commercial, residential, and other leisure pursuits on offer, has a beautiful organic form of intertwining loops. With 700,000m2 of landscape and some 600,000m2 of buildings topped with green roofs and a provision for 20,000m2 of photovoltaic cells and rainwater harvesting solutions this is set to be a wonderfully sustainable conurbation.

The masterplan can be viewed in Paris from 20 Sept – 27 October at the Maison de l’Architecture en Ile-de-France, with an anticipated grand opening scheduled for 2020 /2021, which will offer landscape architects the opportunity to excel in ecological design aesthetics which are setting the standard for our industry, and urban design at large.
