An apple a day should keep the doctor away, along with a healthy portion of four or five other fruit and vegetables but, recently published in Treehugger.com was a list of the worst offending fruit and vegetables for toxicity levels measured by amounts of pesticides found in the skin. Researched by the Environmental Working Group, they do some fantastic work in highlighting the dangers presented to us by everyday living. Whilst this is based on findings in the US, one can only presume that fruit skins have similar porosity the world over, so I’m guessing you still need to be vigilant of the following wherever you live.
- Sweet bell peppers
- Imported nectarines
Therefore buying organic does make a difference, even it is more expensive, but then again you can’t really put a price on health. Serves as a reminder to us all to wash all fruit and veg thoroughly before use.
